Bowen Therapy in Albany, Western Australia

Small, gentle moves. Then a pause, so your body can answer.

Infinite Flow Bowen Therapy is a quiet treatment room in Albany. The work is light and precise, done through comfortable clothing, with unhurried rests in between. Nothing is cracked, forced or pushed.

A calm hour, close to home

Most people arrive here carrying something specific: a shoulder that has not been right for months, a back that seizes after a long shift, or simply the feeling of being wound too tight to settle.

You do not need to know anything about Bowen Therapy to book. You do not need a referral, and you will not be asked to commit to a plan on your first visit. Come in, tell Sonia what is going on, and see how your body responds.

What is Bowen Therapy?

A gentle, hands-on technique built around light rolling moves and deliberate rests.

During a treatment, the practitioner makes a small set of precise rolling moves across muscle and soft tissue. Then the work stops, and a few quiet minutes pass before the next set. That pause is not a break in the treatment. It is part of it.

The rests give your body time to respond in its own way and at its own pace, rather than being worked on continuously. It is why a Bowen session feels so unlike a massage, and why people are often surprised by how little seems to be happening while it is happening.

Light pressure
No deep tissue work, no joint manipulation, no cracking.
Through clothing
Loose, comfortable clothing is fine. No oils, no undressing.
Built-in pauses
Short rests between sets of moves are a defining part of the technique.
Undemanding
You lie still and rest. Plenty of people fall asleep.

What to expect

If you have never had a Bowen treatment, here is the whole shape of a visit, start to finish.

  1. Before

    Getting ready

Wear loose, comfortable clothing you can lie down in. Arrive a few minutes early. Sonia will ask what has brought you in, what makes it better or worse, and anything in your health history that matters, including medication, recent injuries, surgery or pregnancy. Nothing you say is shared with anyone.

  2. During

    On the table

You will usually lie on a treatment table, comfortably supported, face up or face down. Sonia makes a small set of moves, then pauses and lets you rest quietly for a couple of minutes before the next set. That pattern repeats through the session. You can ask her to stop or change position at any time.

  3. The pause

Why the work stops and starts

The rests are deliberate. Bowen Therapy is designed around giving the body space between sets of moves rather than working continuously, so the room simply goes quiet for a few minutes at a time. Most people find that the most restful part of the hour.

  4. After

    The days that follow

Drink some water and keep moving gently rather than sitting still for the rest of the day. It is usually suggested to leave a few days before other hands-on treatments. Responses vary a great deal: some people notice a change straight away, some over the following days, and some very little at first.

Why people come in

Bowen Therapy is a complementary therapy. It does not treat or cure disease, and it does not replace medical care. These are simply the reasons people most often book a session.

  • General muscular tension, tightness and stiffness
  • Back, neck and shoulder discomfort
  • Restricted movement and everyday aches
  • Feeling stressed, wound up, or unable to switch off
  • Long hours on your feet, at a desk, or doing repetitive work
  • Sleep that has not been restful
  • Wanting an hour of genuine quiet

No outcome is promised. If something is new, severe, or getting worse, please see your GP or another qualified health professional. Bowen Therapy sits alongside medical care, never instead of it.

Before you book

The questions first-time visitors ask most often.

Will it hurt?

It should not. The moves are light and slow. Some spots can feel tender in the moment, in the way pressing a sore muscle does, but nothing is forced and you can ask Sonia to ease off or stop at any point.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing you can lie down in. Bowen Therapy is done through light clothing, so there is no undressing and no oil.

Why does the treatment keep stopping?

The rests between sets of moves are part of the technique, not an interruption to it. Sonia pauses the work and lets you lie quietly for a few minutes before the next set, so your body has time to respond before anything more is added.

How many sessions will I need?

That depends entirely on you and what you have come in with. Sonia will talk it through with you after your first visit. You will not be signed up to a package or pressured into a schedule.

Can I have Bowen alongside other treatment?

Usually, yes, but tell Sonia what else you have on. It is generally suggested to leave a few days between a Bowen session and other hands-on therapies so you can tell what is doing what. Keep your GP or specialist in the loop as you normally would.

Is it suitable for me?

Bowen Therapy is gentle and is used with people of many ages and situations. If you are pregnant, recovering from surgery or an injury, or managing an ongoing health condition, mention it when you book so Sonia can plan the session around it.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly.

How do I pay, and what if I need to change my appointment?
